Travelling to Cuba with hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism or another thyroid condition requires planning around medication timing, temperature exposure, hydration and access to medical care.
Before departure
- Confirm that your condition is stable.
- Bring enough medication for the trip plus extra for delays.
- Carry a medication list using generic names.
- Confirm insurance coverage for your existing condition.
Medication routine
Keep medication in carry-on baggage and in original pharmacy packaging. Maintain the same dosing schedule as closely as possible. Do not rely on pharmacies in Cuba for an exact replacement.
Heat and hydration
Plan outdoor activities during cooler hours, rest in shaded or air-conditioned areas and drink regularly unless your clinician has given you a fluid restriction.
When to seek help
Seek medical attention for severe palpitations, fainting, chest pain, confusion, persistent vomiting or a major change in symptoms.
