High humidity is common at Cuba resorts, especially near the coast and during warmer or wetter periods. Even when a room feels cool, moisture can make clothing, bedding and luggage feel damp. A few simple habits can reduce discomfort and help protect personal items.
Why resort rooms can feel damp
Warm outdoor air carries moisture into rooms whenever doors or balcony windows remain open. Air-conditioning removes some humidity, but it works less effectively when the room is opened repeatedly or the system is turned off for long periods.
Ground-floor rooms, shaded buildings and rooms close to gardens may also feel more humid than upper floors with stronger airflow.
Keep doors and windows closed while cooling
When the air conditioner is running, keep balcony doors and windows fully closed. This helps the system cool and dehumidify the room more efficiently.
Avoid setting the temperature extremely low. A steady, comfortable setting usually works better than repeatedly switching the unit on and off.
Dry wet clothing outside the wardrobe
Do not place wet swimsuits or towels inside drawers, suitcases or closed wardrobes. Hang them in the bathroom, on an approved drying rack or in another ventilated area.
Resorts may restrict clothing on balcony railings for safety and appearance, so use only designated drying spaces.
Protect luggage, documents and electronics
- Keep passports, medication and electronics in sealed bags when not in use.
- Use small reusable moisture-absorbing packets inside camera or electronics cases.
- Leave suitcases partly open only when the room is secure and dry.
- Do not store luggage directly against a damp wall.

Check for leaks or maintenance problems
Humidity alone is normal, but dripping air conditioners, wet ceilings, visible water damage or a strong persistent odour may indicate a maintenance problem. Report it to reception or guest services promptly.
Take a clear photo and note when the problem began. If the room cannot be corrected, politely request an inspection or room change.
Manage condensation
Cold bottles, windows and air-conditioning vents may collect condensation. Keep clothing, medication and electronics away from these surfaces.
Wipe small areas with a towel rather than allowing water to remain on furniture or floors, where it can create a slipping hazard.

- Resealable plastic bags
- A waterproof pouch for documents
- Quick-drying clothing
- A few moisture-absorbing packets
