A room change at a Cuba resort may be possible when a room has a serious maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility or noise problem. Availability can be limited, especially during busy periods, so travellers should report the issue quickly and separate a necessary move from a preference-based upgrade.
Inspect the room before unpacking
Check the door lock, bathroom, air conditioning, electrical outlets, balcony, safe and signs of water damage. Test essential equipment immediately. Reporting a problem before unpacking makes a move easier and gives the hotel a clearer opportunity to inspect the room.
Explain why a change is needed
Give the front desk the room number, specific problem and any evidence. A request based on a broken lock, unusable bathroom, persistent water leak or inaccessible layout should be described as an operational need, not simply as dissatisfaction.
For noise concerns, identify the source and the hours when it occurs. The hotel may first offer a quieter location, repair or schedule change before approving a full room move.
Ask what type of replacement is available
Confirm the building, floor, bed configuration, view, distance from elevators and whether the replacement belongs to the same booked category. Do not assume that a different room number is automatically an upgrade.
Before accepting, inspect the replacement room when the hotel allows it. Test the same essential items again.
Understand upgrades and charges
A complimentary move may be offered when the original room has a verified problem, but a better view, premium building or larger suite may involve an additional charge. Ask for the total cost, currency, payment method and written confirmation before agreeing.
If a package operator sold a specific room category, contact the representative when the hotel cannot provide an equivalent room.
Move belongings securely
Pack passports, medication, cash, electronics and jewellery personally. Check drawers, the safe, bathroom, balcony and charging outlets before returning the old key. Count luggage and photograph valuable items if staff are transporting the bags.
Update resort records
After moving, confirm that the front desk, housekeeping and any tour operator representative have the new room number. Reconnect services such as wake-up calls, maintenance follow-ups or accessibility assistance.
Document unresolved disputes
Keep the original booking confirmation, photos, names, dates and written promises. If the replacement is not equivalent or the problem continues, ask for a manager and document the response while still at the resort.
