Resort room telephones are useful for contacting reception, housekeeping or another room, but travellers should learn the system before an urgent situation occurs. Extension numbers and dialing rules can vary between properties.
Find the internal directory
Look near the telephone, inside the room information folder or on the back of the door. Save the numbers for reception, security, medical assistance and the tour representative.
Test the phone after arrival
Make a simple call to reception and confirm that the handset, line and room number work correctly. Report static, a dead line or missing instructions immediately.
Understand outside-call limits
International or mobile calls may be restricted, charged separately or unavailable from the room. Ask reception about rates and dialing procedures before placing an outside call.
Keep backup communication options
- Save the resort name and address offline.
- Keep a charged mobile phone available.
- Write down essential extension numbers.
- Know the route from the room to reception.
For connectivity planning, see our guide to Wi-Fi at Cuba resorts.
When the room phone does not work
Visit reception in person and document the problem, especially if the telephone is needed for accessibility, medical reasons or an early wake-up call. Our front-desk problem-solving guide explains how to follow up.
A working room telephone is easy to ignore until it is needed. Testing it after arrival takes less than a minute and removes one avoidable risk.
