Cuba resort dress codes are usually relaxed during the day, but some restaurants and evening venues expect guests to wear cleaner, more formal clothing. Packing a few versatile items helps avoid being refused entry or feeling underdressed.
Daytime clothing at the resort
Swimwear, shorts, T-shirts, sandals and cover-ups are generally suitable around pools and beaches. However, wet swimwear and bare feet may not be accepted inside buffet restaurants, lobbies or indoor bars.
Bring a light cover-up or shirt that can be put on quickly when leaving the beach area.
À la carte restaurant expectations
Dress rules vary by hotel and restaurant. Some venues accept smart casual clothing, while others may require long trousers, closed shoes or shirts with sleeves for men. Women are usually accepted in dresses, skirts, trousers or neat resort wear.
Always verify the current policy with the hotel because requirements can change and may differ between restaurants at the same property.
What men should pack
- One pair of lightweight long trousers
- One collared or neat short-sleeved shirt
- Closed shoes or clean dress sandals where accepted
- A light layer for air-conditioned restaurants
What women should pack
- A casual dress, skirt or lightweight trousers
- A neat blouse or top
- Comfortable evening sandals or shoes
- A light shawl or cardigan for indoor air conditioning
Footwear matters
Beach sandals are practical during the day, but some restaurants may reject flip-flops. Pack at least one pair of clean, comfortable shoes suitable for dinner, walking through the resort and attending evening entertainment.
Plan for heat and humidity
Choose breathable fabrics that dry quickly. Heavy clothing can become uncomfortable, while very light fabrics may need frequent washing. Our Cuba resort laundry guide explains how to prepare for limited or variable laundry service.
Do not overpack formal clothing
Most Cuba resorts do not require business attire. One or two smart-casual outfits are usually more practical than formal clothing that will only be worn once.
For a broader packing strategy, use our Cuba travel backup plan and keep essential clothing in your carry-on in case checked baggage is delayed.
Before your first dinner
- Ask reception about restaurant-specific rules.
- Confirm whether reservations are required.
- Check whether long trousers or closed shoes are mandatory.
- Bring a light layer for indoor air conditioning.
- Avoid arriving in wet swimwear or beach clothing.
A small number of versatile, breathable outfits will cover most daytime and evening situations without adding unnecessary weight to your luggage.
