Who was Joseíto Fernández?

Joseíto Fernández was born in Havana on September 5, 1908, and died on October 11, 1979. Raised in the working-class neighbourhood of Los Sitios, he was largely self-taught and developed his career through popular ensembles, radio programs and live performance.

His strong voice and ability to improvise verses made him particularly well suited to radio, which was becoming one of Cuba’s most important cultural platforms.
