Most travellers arriving at Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport use a tour-operator coach, private transfer or taxi. The best option depends on arrival time, luggage, mobility needs, hotel location and whether transportation is included in the vacation package.
Before leaving home
- Confirm whether airport transportation is included.
- Save the transfer company, hotel name, booking reference and emergency contacts offline.
- Keep screenshots of pickup instructions and the hotel address.
- Confirm vehicle size, luggage capacity and mobility requirements for a private transfer.
After collecting luggage
Follow signs toward the official arrivals area and look for the tour operator or transfer representative. Do not leave with an unknown driver who cannot confirm the traveller’s name, hotel or booking company.
Shared coach transfers
Package holidays commonly use shared coaches. The bus may wait for passengers from several flights and stop at multiple resorts. Travel time depends on traffic, hotel stops and the property’s position on the Varadero peninsula.
Keep water, medication, documents, electronics and essential items in carry-on baggage instead of placing everything under the coach.
Private transfers
A private transfer can reduce waiting time. Confirm the total cost, meeting point, vehicle type, luggage capacity, child-seat availability and cancellation policy before travel.
Taxis at Varadero airport
Confirm the destination, total price and accepted currency before entering. Keep small bills available and save the exact hotel address offline. Verify that the driver understands the correct property entrance or hotel section.
Luggage precautions
Count every suitcase before leaving the airport and again when unloading. Photograph bags and identification tags before the trip. A visible ribbon or distinctive strap can reduce mix-ups.
Delays and unexpected changes
Flights may arrive late, baggage delivery can take longer than expected and assigned vehicles can change. When the representative is not immediately visible, remain near the official meeting area and contact the tour operator before arranging alternative transport.
Arrival at the hotel
Do not leave the transfer area until all luggage has been unloaded. Keep passports and booking documents with you during check-in. When the room is not ready, ask where luggage will be stored and whether the area is supervised.
Return pickup from the resort
Check the pickup board, tour-operator binder or reception desk at least one day before departure. Pickup times may be several hours before the flight because shared coaches serve multiple hotels.
- Take a screenshot or written note of the time.
- Use a backup alarm.
- Be in the lobby early with luggage clearly identified.
- Keep passports, money and medication with you.
Build a backup plan
Save airline, tour operator, hotel and insurer contacts offline. Keep enough emergency cash for an alternate taxi if the scheduled transfer fails.
