Transportation in Cuba: taxis, buses and Varadero transfers
Transport can be affected by fuel shortages, vehicle availability, outages and schedule changes. Confirm each important transfer and keep a cash and communication backup.

Varadero airport transfers
Keep the hotel name and address offline. Package buses may serve several resorts, so travel time can be longer than a direct taxi. For the return trip, reconfirm pickup time with the representative or provider rather than relying only on the original voucher.
Taxi safety and payment
- Agree on the full price and currency before departure.
- Confirm whether the price is per vehicle or per person.
- Carry small bills and avoid displaying all your cash.
- Use the hotel or restaurant to help identify a driver when possible.
- Save the destination in Spanish and offline on your phone.
Intercity travel
For Havana, Matanzas or other cities, leave extra time and prepare a backup. Fuel or mechanical problems can cause delays. Keep water, medication, cash, charger and the accommodation address in your carry-on bag.
