Resort check-in and check-out in Cuba can take longer than expected, especially when several flights arrive close together. Travellers should keep essential documents and a few basic items accessible instead of placing everything in checked luggage.
Before arriving at the hotel
- Keep your passport, booking confirmation and transfer information together.
- Save screenshots because mobile data or hotel Wi-Fi may be unavailable.
- Keep medication, chargers, swimwear and one change of clothes in carry-on baggage.
- Confirm the official name of the hotel because some properties have changed brands.
What happens at check-in
Reception normally verifies the reservation, registers the guests and provides room information, meal schedules and resort identification such as a wristband or card. Rooms may not be ready immediately when guests arrive early.
Inspect the room promptly
Check the door lock, safe, air conditioning, water, electrical outlets and balcony door soon after entering. Report significant problems immediately and keep the room number and reception contact information saved.
Deposits, towels and room keys
Some resorts use towel cards, key cards or refundable deposits. Procedures vary by hotel. Ask what must be returned before departure and what fee applies if an item is lost.
Prepare for check-out
- Confirm the check-out time the day before departure.
- Ask where luggage can be stored after leaving the room.
- Return keys, towel cards and borrowed items.
- Check the safe, drawers, bathroom and electrical outlets.
- Keep travel documents and medication with you.
Late check-out
Late check-out may be available for a fee, but it depends on occupancy and operational conditions. Do not rely on it until reception confirms it. A hospitality room may sometimes be offered instead.
Airport transfer timing
Use the transfer time provided by the tour operator or transport company. Confirm it in advance and be in the lobby early, since fuel shortages, traffic or multiple hotel pickups can affect schedules.
