Travelling to Cuba soon after hospitalization requires more than feeling “better.” The safest plan considers why you were admitted, how stable your recovery is and what would happen if symptoms returned away from home.
Get clear medical approval
- Ask whether you are medically fit to fly and travel.
- Review restrictions related to lifting, walking, swimming, alcohol, sun exposure and excursions.
- Confirm warning signs that require urgent care.
- Request a concise discharge summary and updated medication list.
Review medication changes
Hospitalization often leads to new prescriptions, stopped medications or dose changes. Bring enough medication for the entire trip plus a reserve, keep it in original packaging and carry written instructions.
Plan for reduced stamina
Choose direct transfers, shorter walking distances, elevators and a quiet room near essential services. Schedule rest after the flight and avoid booking demanding excursions during the first days.
Prevent complications
Follow medical advice on hydration, movement during the flight, compression stockings, wound care and infection prevention. Avoid swimming until wounds are fully healed and your clinician has approved it.
Insurance and emergency planning
Make sure the insurer knows about the recent hospitalization. Confirm whether complications related to the admission are covered and whether medical evacuation is included.
