Travelling to Cuba After Surgery: Medical Clearance, Mobility and Recovery Planning

Travelling to Cuba after surgery may be possible, but the timing should be decided with the surgeon or treating physician. The type of surgery, wound healing, mobility, pain control and risk of blood clots all matter.

Get medical clearance before booking

Ask when it is safe to fly and whether you need a fit-to-fly letter. Bring a concise medical summary, medication list, operative date and emergency contact information.

Consider the risk of blood clots

Long periods of sitting can raise the risk of deep-vein thrombosis after some procedures. Follow your clinician’s advice about walking, hydration, compression garments or prescribed medication. Never start blood thinners without medical direction.

Protect the surgical wound

Do not expose a healing wound to pool water, seawater, sand or excessive sun unless your surgeon has approved it. Pack sterile dressings, tape and any wound-care products you have been instructed to use.

Plan for reduced mobility
