Les vérifications essentielles avant de réserver ou partir à Varadero.
Food and water problems can quickly ruin a trip. In Cuba, shortages, power outages and uneven refrigeration can increase the importance of simple precautions, even at hotels and restaurants.
Choose water carefully
Drink water from a trusted source. Commercially sealed bottled water is convenient when available. Check that the cap and seal are intact. When safe bottled water is unavailable, boiling is the most reliable treatment method: bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute.
Use safe water for brushing your teeth and avoid swallowing water in pools, showers or freshwater areas.
Use the basic food rule
A practical rule is: boil it, cook it, peel it or leave it. Choose food that is thoroughly cooked and served hot. Be cautious with raw or undercooked meat, seafood, eggs, unpeeled produce, salads and food left at room temperature.
Ice and drinks
Use ice only when it is made from purified or disinfected water. Sealed canned or bottled drinks are generally safer than beverages prepared with an unknown water source. Never leave a drink unattended.
Pack a small health kit
- hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol
- oral rehydration salts
- thermometer
- prescription medication in original packaging
- basic first-aid supplies
When to seek medical help
Seek medical care for persistent vomiting, severe dehydration, blood in stool, high fever, confusion or symptoms that rapidly worsen. Travel insurance and access to funds are important because medical facilities may require payment arrangements.
