Unofficial currency exchange
Avoid exchanging money with strangers. Rates may look attractive, but travellers risk counterfeit notes, short counts or theft. Use trusted channels and count money carefully before leaving.
Taxi overcharging
Agree on the total fare before entering an unmetered taxi. Confirm whether the price is per person or for the whole vehicle, and clarify the currency.
Fake or overpriced cigars
Street sellers may claim that cigars come from a factory worker or a special private source. Authenticity and storage conditions are difficult to verify. Buy regulated products from reputable shops when quality matters.
Restaurant and bar billing
Check menus, currencies and totals before paying. Ask about prices when no menu is available and keep small notes to reduce change disputes.
Friendly approaches with a sales motive
Some conversations may lead to pressure to buy drinks, food, tours or souvenirs. A polite but firm refusal is enough.
