Verified August 28, 2026. Government of Canada guidance says Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards are no longer accepted in Cuba as of June 6, 2026. Bring sufficient cash for the full trip; domestic Clásica and Tropical prepaid cards may remain available but may not always function reliably.

Build a layered payment plan

Why card-based payments are risky
Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards are not accepted in Cuba under the current rules. Domestic prepaid cards can also be affected by banking conditions, outages or network interruptions, so they should not replace a sufficient cash reserve.
