Preselect your seat: Preselecting your seat allows you to choose your seat when you purchase your ticket in "superior" class, or at any later time in "economy" class, often at extra cost. This is particularly useful if you absolutely want a window seat, which is always very popular with travellers.
Online pre-check-in: Pre-check-in means checking in online, so you don't have to go to the counter at the airport. In most cases, you can pre-check in 24 hours before departure. If you have not pre-selected your seat, you will be shown the seats allocated at this stage. You will also have the option of changing your seat, depending on the seat still available. Once you have completed pre-check-in, your boarding pass will be emailed to you, which you can store on your mobile device or print out. For added security, we recommend that you print a copy.
At the airport: Once you're at the airport, you can use a self-service kiosk to complete the necessary formalities, leaving you only to drop off your baggage.
Quick and easy baggage check-in process: The operation is fast and takes just a few minutes. The first step is to place your passport on the dedicated scanning area. You may also need your reservation number with the airline, although I have a slight doubt despite following this procedure on my November 19, 2021 departure. Perhaps the excitement of the trip got the better of me!
Baggage labelling: At the end of the process, identification strips for hold baggage are printed directly from the terminal. Simply attach them to the handles of your suitcases. These strips contain a small coupon indicating your baggage tracking number. It's a good idea to stick this coupon on the back of your passport, so that you can find it easily if you lose your luggage. Be sure to read the information on both sides of the strips to locate this famous "magic square" for tracking.
Formerly affixed by check-in staff, these labels are now placed on your baggage yourself.
What are the rules?
As far as pre-check-in is concerned, you can normally do this within 24 hours of your flight's departure. You can check in online or using your mobile device. This saves you arriving at the airport, queuing and being allocated a seat in the middle of the plane between 3 other people.
When you pre-check in, you'll receive your boarding pass and can make any changes (or add baggage, special meal requests, etc.) or even change your seat free of charge from the remaining seats. This option is also available at self-service check-in kiosks in airports.
Some seats, such as Préférence, can be purchased on the same day for a fee.
What else do you need to know?
Seat selection fees are always charged per passenger. Seat selection fees and all associated charges apply, per passenger and per journey. If you cancel your ticket, some airlines refund the seat selection fee (depending on the fare paid), but not necessarily.
With Sunwing
- For an additional fee, you can take advantage of the Elite Plus service and receive a seat with more legroom (35 inches), seat pre-selection, priority check-in at Canadian airports (now also available at Varadero), a higher baggage allowance (30 kg), priority boarding, etc.
- In terms of pre-check-in, the company offers a simple and efficient system for passengers travelling from Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Quebec City. Online check-in allows you to check in for your flight, select your seat and then print out your boarding pass.
Online check-in is now available 24 hours before departure with Sunwing, whereas it used to be only 12 hours before departure.
With Air Transat
-Pre-check-in: you can check in online from 24 to 2 hours before your flight's scheduled departure time. You'll save time at the airport by checking in online, and can simply drop off your baggage at the dedicated counter. Please note that passengers must be present when checking in their baggage. To do this, you'll need to have your flight confirmation/e-ticket and passport number to hand. Note that you will have been allocated seats, but there is an option to change them.
