Earthquake of February 8, 2025: Tsunami Alert Issued for the Caribbean

Tonight, February 8, 2025, a powerful magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck the Caribbean region at 6:23 pm local time. The epicenter of the quake was located at sea, at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to USGS data.


Tsunami warning in effect

Following this earthquake, a tsunami warning has been issued for several coastal areas in the Caribbean, including parts of Cuba. Authorities are advising people living near the coast to move immediately to higher ground, and to follow the advice of the civil protection services.



Impact felt in Cuba

The earthquake was strongly felt in several Cuban provinces, particularly in the eastern and southern regions of the island. Tremors were reported in Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Guantánamo and other nearby areas. For the moment, no major damage or casualties have been confirmed, but assessments are underway.

- Avoid using coastal roads unless there is an emergency.
